Impact starts with our members — people like you who want to be part of making the Outer Banks and the world a better place. Whether at club meetings or when doing projects, Rotary members come together to strengthen their connections to friends and neighbors and their commitment to improving lives.
BEING A MEMBER
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Rotarian. Joining First Flight Rotary is a privilege and a responsibility, but also good fun and fellowship.
Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching their personal and professional lives. A Rotary club contains a diverse group of professional leaders from the community that the club serves.
First Flight Rotary offers three types of memberships so you can enjoy Rotary regardless of your situation. You may submit an application inquiry and we will get back with you promptly.
- Regular Membership – This is the traditional, full membership where a person enjoys the networking and fellowship of weekly meetings and working on community projects
- Corporate Membership – This allows a local business to always have a seat in First Flight Rotary meetings and activities, including all the business networking Rotary offers.
- Family Membership – A Family Membership allows the whole family to participate through online or evening meetings, working on projects, meeting new people, and having fun improving our community. This membership includes no meals but Family Members are always welcome to come to Regular meetings when their schedule allows.
- Passport Membership – A Passport Membership is similar to a Family Membership except is designed for seasonal residents who want the benefits and enjoyment of Rotary while supporting their Outer Banks community. Dues would not include meals. Despite livingin on the Outer Banks part time, Passport Members would be year-round members of First Flight Rotary Club and could attend Rotary meetings wherever they are living or working during other parts of the year.
Rotary is a network of members around the world working together to exchange ideas, plan projects and take action. Becoming a Rotary member connects you with a diverse group of professionals who share your drive to give back. Through regular meetings, projects and events, you’ll:
- Discuss our community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them
- Connect with other leaders who are strengthening the Outer Banks and changing the world
- Expand your leadership and professional skills
- Catch up with good friends and meet new ones
GET INVOLVED AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
When you join our Rotary club, your potential to make a difference on the Outer Banks and in the world grows exponentially. That’s because you’re joining a network of over 1.2 million people who take action — volunteers from all over who share a goal of improving our community.
In fact, the top two reasons people join Rotary are to connect with and give back to their communities. These are the same reasons members stay in Rotary year after year. But simply joining isn’t going to change lives or make those connections. That happens when you get involved. You’ll shape your own experience and decide how to get the most out of your membership.
Get involved in ways that align with your passions, and you’ll get much more from your experience.
CONNECT WITH YOUR CLUB
Membership in a Rotary club offers you opportunities to connect with other business leaders and professionals who aren’t afraid to work and are dedicated to making a difference. Spending time with your fellow club members — whether to attend a meeting, plan a project, exchange ideas, or just have fun — can lead to lifelong friendships. When you get involved and make connections, you will inevitably grow as a person and develop new skills. When you involve your family in Rotary projects, you strengthen family bonds and teach your children the importance of giving back to the community. Here are some ways to connect within your club.

HOW WILL YOU GET INVOLVED?
When you get involved, it’s not just your club and community that benefit. You benefit, too. As an active Rotarian, you’ll make connections and develop skills while Doing Good in the World. You’ll meet community leaders and tackle local and global issues that are important to you and your fellow club members. You’ll feel the shared sense of purpose that comes from working together to better your community. When it comes to being an active Rotarian, the opportunities are endless.
Optimize Your Membership Experience
There are countless ways to engage with Rotary and your Rotary club. You choose how — and how much — to get involved.
Other benefits of membership include:
Rotary Global Rewards, our member benefits program, which offers discounts on products and services. It’s Rotary’s way of helping our members spend less so they can do more.
The Rotary International Convention is our biggest event of the year. Rotary members from more than 130 countries meet at the convention each year to celebrate our successes and make plans for the future.
Rotary Fellowships give members the chance to join a group of people who share similar interests, hobbies, or vocations. Some groups use their fellowship to make a positive difference.
Rotarian Action Groups unite Rotary members, family members, program participants and alumni who share their expertise in particular fields by collaborating with clubs and districts on projects.
WHAT’S EXPECTED OF ME?
As a club member, you will be asked to:
- Pay club dues
- Attend meetings and events
- Use your professional skills and talents to make a difference
WHAT’S NEXT?
The key to getting the most out of your membership is to get involved in ways that suit your interests. The time and energy you invest in Rotary will yield rich rewards. You can shape your club experience by talking with club leaders about your ideas, and as a member, you, too, are eligible to be a club leader. Over time, active members find that the connections they make through Rotary become lifelong friendships.

WITH YOU
WE SEE DIFFERENTLY:
We are problem solvers working together to achieve a better world. Our members are deeply ingrained in the communities in which they live and serve, affording them insight into local challenges and access to the leaders, resources, and networking opportunities needed to strategize and take action to make lasting change.
WE THINK DIFFERENTLY:
Rotary clubs reflect the diversity of our communities and the breadth of viewpoints that comes from our members’ varied professional and personal experiences. For more than 100 years, we have been applying different perspectives to create innovative, sustainable solutions that address the needs and challenges affecting our communities.
WE LEAD DIFFERENTLY:
As Rotary members we hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards. Community members, community leaders, and other organizations seek us out because they know they can trust us to be effective partners and deliver on our promises.
OUR ACTIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
Harnessing our unique perspectives and ideas gives us a shared purpose — one that compels us to take action. We roll up our sleeves, leverage our personal relationships with local partners and businesses, and apply our leadership skills as a way to get the job done and bring to life the changes we envision.
